CAMP x Disney's The Little Mermaid Exhibition (Summer 2023)

CAMP partnered with Disney for an interactive exhibition / playground centered on the premiere of The Little Mermaid (2023). As a concept illustrator, I was tasked with conceptualizing and designing bespoke hubs and interactive elements throughout the exhibition. This included prop design, color design, texture design, layout design, and more.

One of the main challenges of designing the playgrounds was that I always had to be mindful of scale. Since this was to be a life-size exhibition as opposed to a 2D translation, I learned a lot about safety, accessibility, physical limitations, etc. For example, the coral-shaped fences on the second floor of the slide design above used to be more organic and varied in shape language, until I learned about average attendees (kids)'s heights and safety precautions concerning some of their potential attempt to climb things!

Conceptualizing the space with actual attendees in the picture was also very crucial. From a technical standpoint, this once again helps with designing in scale. But more importantly, it sets a proper goal for the type of mood and atmosphere the space should emit.

Above is an image of the actual exhibition! How cool is that?

Simple 3D sketches help with visualizing the nooks and crannies that might not be seen from a certain angle of a 2D sketch.
